Henleaze is a northern suburb and council ward of Bristol. This popular district boasts a busy high street with a fantastic and stylish, Edwardian, 1930s and post-war semi-detached properties. Like the neighbouring suburbs of Redland, Bishopston and Westbury-on-Trym, Henleaze is an affluent area of Bristol.
Being just two miles away, Bristol city centre is walkable from Henleaze, with buses running regularly to the city. Falcondale Road (A4018) passes through the town, which continues to the M5, boosting the appeal of Henleaze to commuters.
It is believed the name Henleaze derived from Robert Henley, who bought a property in the area that became known as Henley’s House and later Henleaze Park. The suburb’s streets are lined with a great selection of cafes, restaurants, pubs and shops, including Just So Toy Shop, The Henleaze Florist, Chandos Deli and The Eastfield Inn.
Henleaze Lake is an iconic landmark of the suburb. This freshwater, spring-fed lake is home to Henleaze Swimming Club, which, due to its popularity, has a lengthy waiting list to become a member. Another popular feature of this northern Bristol suburb is the independent Orpheus Cinema, one of the oldest cinemas in the UK.
