Plumbing, Bathroom & Boiler Installation Services in Southmead
Southmead is a northern suburb of Bristol located to the Bristol suburbs of Filton, Henleaze, Horfield and Westbury on Trym.
It is believed that Southmead was originally a manor of the parish of Westbury on Trym. In the late 1800s the estate was sold and by 1888 the area became a small hamlet on Southmead Road. Southmead was heavily developed in the 1930s when 1,500 houses were built, partly as homes for families in central Bristol who were being cleared from slums.
Today, the centre of Southmead (covered by the BS10 Bristol postcode) can be found along Greystoke Avenue, to the north of the original cluster of houses on Southmead Road. There are a number of pubs and eateries in Southmead, including Chance on Greystoke Avenue and the Beehive Pub on Wellington Hill West.
Southmead Hospital, with an A&E facility, is located on Southmead Road. The extension of the hospital and an increase in services has created more opportunity and employment in the area.
One popular attraction in Southmead is Badock’s Wood, a nature reserve where the River Trym flows through woodland and meadows. This pretty spot can be accessed from Doncaster Road or Lakewood Road.
